Martha's
Vineyard
March 2014
You might recognize this island as a popular vacation spot for all our presidents, but I know it as the filming location for Steven Spielberg's JAWS.
Most of my vacations tend to fall during spring or fall unless I'm headed to a beach. My family and I planned a trip to Martha's Vineyard in late September, just as summer wrapped up and school was back in session. We experienced a mix of chilly days and warm enough ones to go sleeveless. The crowds were light, making for an overall enjoyable experience. It's easy to see why the presidents love it here.
JAWS is one of my favorite films; I could watch it on repeat, especially in the summer. So, as you can imagine, I was thrilled to visit several locations where JAWS was filmed.
We strolled through Edgartown, where Chief Brody walks to the hardware store to buy paint for the beach closure signs.
Menemsha Harbor in Chilmark, where many of the Orca boat scenes were shot, served the most delicious lobster rolls. We dined at a place called Menemsha Galley.
We also checked out the American Legion Memorial Bridge (commonly known as Jaws Bridge), where the shark is seen entering Sengekontacket Pond.
Finally, we visited the Gay Head Light in Aquinnah, where Brody, the Mayor, and Hooper have their heated argument. The view there was absolutely stunning.
