Horseshoe

Bay Resort

March & September 2020

If you're searching for a luxurious place to stay in the Hill Country, Horseshoe Bay Resort is the perfect choice. Located about 1.5 hours northwest of Austin, this resort isn’t inexpensive. The website sums it up well, describing it as an 'upscale lifestyle vacation destination,' and it certainly delivers on that promise.

I had the pleasure of experiencing this extravagant resort with my parents and my dog, Cholo. It's a fantastic spot for families, offering a variety of amenities, including multiple pools, lake access, mini-golf, and, most importantly, a dog-friendly atmosphere.

The property features several types of rooms, and since Cholo was with us, we opted for a room in the Palm Villas, which is the only area where pets are allowed.

I love plants and any place with abundant greenery, and this resort definitely delivers. It’s surrounded by stunning plants, flowers, lakes, and waterfalls. Anyone familiar with the Hill Country knows it’s typically dry, rocky, and filled with cacti. But when you walk through the trails here, it feels like you’ve left the arid landscape behind and stepped into a lush oasis, complete with a pool, restaurants, and a golf course. I’m telling you, this place is truly fancy.

My favorite part of the resort is driving (or walking) over to the Yacht Club and enjoying a dip in the incredibly inviting hot tub. The hot tub features a dark aesthetic with dark tiles and is surrounded by rock-like sculptures. If you get too warm, you can simply take a few steps over to the pool to cool off.

The pool is quite cold, and the only time I’ve truly enjoyed it was during the really warm months, like June to August, when it’s sunny and hot outside. However, I had no trouble staying warm in the hot tub.

Here’s the deal: the hot tub is a crowd favorite. If you visit during a busy weekend, you can expect it to be packed. So, I recommend going during the week for a more relaxing experience."
