March 2021 marked one year since the pandemic began affecting our everyday lives. Just a few days earlier, Houston was hit by a devastating winter storm. I needed to escape the confines of my apartment, and Getaway was the perfect solution. I first came across Getaway through several Instagram ads, and then one of my friends tried it—and she loved it.
I booked my three-day trip about a month in advance for myself and my dog, and the entire process was seamless. After reserving your cabin, you receive a confirmation email, followed by a reminder a few days before your trip. All the essential details are sent to your phone the day before, so you just need to screenshot them (in case you lose service) and have them ready when you arrive.
I was living in Houston at the time, so I chose the cabins in Navasota, Texas, located about an hour from home. My reservation was from Wednesday through Friday, and the drive there and back was seamless. Upon arrival, you simply reference your screenshot, follow the road signs, and use the provided code to enter your cabin. That’s it. You can immediately start enjoying the soothing sounds of the wind blowing through the tall trees.
This was the ultimate spot for me-time. There was no laptop or phone to distract me from my surroundings, allowing me to fully take it all in—it felt incredibly healing. I can't wait to do it again.
